Shine Bright Baby to Release "Dreamers" July 23

BEC Recordings is set to release the first recording from the band Shine Bright Baby. The national debut disc from the worshipful electronic rockers, titled Dreamers, is set to release July 23.

The foursome comprising Shine Bright Baby - Emily Irene on vocals, guitarist Nathan Fertig, Joshua Fink on keys, guitars and vocals, and Karl Wendel on drums - each hail from Orrville, Ohio. Their unique band name comes from Philippians 2, which, shares Joshua, “Talks about shining brightly for the Lord, but we wanted to take what that verse said and apply it to the band’s mission and what we stood for. Emily wanted it to be more fun and playful, so she tacked ‘Baby’ on the end and it just stuck.”

None of the members of Shine Bright Baby had the lifelong mission to be part of a band, yet when local reception grew so strong that major festivals and record labels were showing interest, they had no choice but to notice God’s plan for the band. “We all come from church backgrounds, all leading worship at church at various points of life,” says Karl. “Anytime we’re on that stage, our goal is to glorify God and worship through our instruments and voices, and hopefully in turn, help others be able to draw closer to God.”

Emily and Nathan, who founded the band in 2007, started performing in the local scene in both mainstream club settings and amongst Christian circles, performing their inventive mixture of pop, rock, electronic and modern worship. During the time, most of the bands in town steered towards metal and Shine Bright Baby stood out from the pack, then adding Joshua and Karl to their lineup.

Shine Bright Baby soon found themselves headlining shows as well as opening for acts like The Classic Crime, Ivoryline and Manic Drive, then quickly graduating to playing the major festivals with very little promotion. Soon after, they signed with BEC Recordings.

“After we signed with BEC Recordings, we went into a really serious songwriting mode, coming up with 70 or 80 songs,” Emily shares. “We needed to find what we wanted and what felt right, and throughout that process, we experienced a lot of growth.” To create Dreamers, they worked with producer and songwriting collaborator Matt Arcaini, creative partners Mike “X” O’Conner and Tofer Brown, plus executive producer Pete Kipley.

One of the band’s personal favorites from Dreamers is “Made To Glow,” a song about letting God’s love shine in everyone’s daily actions, while the piano/acoustic ballad “Love Restores” was written in the wake of a highly publicized school shooting near the band’s hometown. The group also shows its more aggressive side on “The Brave Ones,” a guitar-charged anthem centered on living a bold life of faith with a little help from Disciple front man Kevin Young.

The first radio single from Dreamers is the redemptive tune “Beautiful Love.” After just three weeks since hitting the radio airwaves the song is currently at No. 21 on Hot AC. Check out the lyric video to "Beautiful Love" below:

Ghost Ship To Release Debut Album June 11

Earlier this year, Mars Hill Music entered into a partnership with Tooth & Nail Records / BEC Recordings to share the variety of worship bands from Mars Hill Church. The second full-length release from this partnership will be from Ghost Ship, which finds its home in the new Mars Hill Downtown building in Seattle. Lead Worship Pastor at Mars Hill Church Downtown Seattle Cam Huxford thought he’d follow in his father’s footsteps (a pastor to the same congregation for 28 years); however, this Georgia native started down the path of a musician early as he discovered music.

“I had this really bad folk band,” he admits, detailing his early days as a musician, “And we were kids, just sharing songs we’d written, and I had an idea for a worship song…and we just wrote it.” He went on to study Music and Theology at East Tennessee University, and post-graduation landed as the lead worship pastor for a 20k congregation back at his father’s church.

Years later, Huxford and his wife started feeling called towards urban ministry and, after researching, found that Seattle was one of the most un-churched cities in the nation. They learned about Mars Hill and Huxford quickly became involved. He’s been leading worship at the downtown campus ever since.

Seeing the congregation sing alongside him is what Huxford and his band Ghost Ship have been doing for about two and half years. Comprised of Huxford, Doug Finefrock, Jamison Dewlen, Chae Choi, Shay Carlucci, and Fancy Morales, the septet worships with a rock-folk sound that fosters Huxford’s specialty of scripture-inspired storytelling. They write and lead with the faith that God will be at the center of it all, thus the name of their band. “Ghost Ship” is a reminder that they’re moving by the power of the Holy Ghost, active vessels for the Lord motivated through the Spirit.

Kutless Re-Signs With BEC Recordings

Since signing to BEC Recordings in 2001, Kutless has been transformed from a new rock band to a staple artist in the industry that has multi-format, top-charting hits and has sold millions of records. BEC Recordings is proud to announce that Kutless has re-signed and will continue their ministry along with the Seattle-based label.

“Kutless is a perfect example of the type of artists we want to continue to work with at BEC Recordings: ministry-minded, quality music and a strong work ethic,” shares Brandon Ebel, President of Tooth & Nail Records / BEC Recordings. “We are thrilled that we are officially continuing this relationship with Kutless as one of our flagship artists for BEC. We have been there from the beginning with the band and are excited to see what the future holds.”

The Portland, Oregon-based Kutless has released seven studio albums (Kutless 2002, Sea of Faces 2004, Strong Tower 2005, Hearts of the Innocent 2006, To Know that You’re Alive 2008, It Is Well 2009, Believer 2012) on BEC Recordings. Kutless has two RIAA Gold-selling albums for Strong Tower and Live From Portland. The band has had 12 No. 1 radio singles across all formats including their major hits “Strong Tower,” “What Faith Can Do” and “Carry Me To The Cross.”

In 2012, Kutless released their most recent studio release, Believer, to much media and sales acclaim debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian & Gospel Chart as well as No. 1 on the iTunes Christian Albums chart.

Launched by original members Jon Micah Sumrall (lead vocals) and guitarist James Mead, the band formed first as a modern rock/worship band at Warner Pacific College in Portland in 2000. Kutless signed to Tooth & Nail/BEC in late 2001 and released its self-titled debut the following year, which went on to become the fastest-selling debut in the label’s history.

Bebo Norman to Retire at End of 2013

Singer/songwriter Bebo Norman has had a highly applauded musical career throughout his seventeen-year discography. Norman has announced that as of the end of 2013, he will officially retire from everything music. This announcement and decision comes after much prayer.

“For those closest to me, this really has been a decision that was years in the making, but after a lot of prayer and continued conversation, my wife Roshare and I made the final call back in December,” shares Bebo. “And honestly I wasn’t sure if I would be done right away, or what the exact timetable would be, but ultimately I decided that I really wanted to honor my label and publishing commitments through 2013 and tour this new record (Lights of Distant Cities) for at least a year from release just to make sure I “finish well.”

In October 2012, Bebo released his last full-length studio release, Lights of Distant Cities, on BEC Recordings to much acclaim – as with all of his releases. Media called this album a “triumph,” “beacon of hope,” “stunning masterpiece” and one of his best pieces of work.

“Everything that I had left in my heart for music, I feel like I squeezed out and emptied into writing and recording this latest project, which I love so dearly. And to have had the chance to write and record such a personal record with my close friend and longtime live collaborator, multi-instrumentalist Gabe Scott, was the perfect way to finish out my recording career.”

Pushing the fear of the unknown aside, Bebo knows he is following his heart just as he did 20 years ago when he entered into a musical career. As many may know, Bebo has often called himself an “accidental” musician as he turned away from his plans for medical school to a season of music. “The reality for me is that I don’t have any one specific calling moving forward – I feel pulled in quite a few different directions, but none of them are music-related. I don’t know that I really feel called to something else as much as I feel called away from music.”

“I’m still not even certain how I got here, how I landed on this particular course as an artist, but I do know that it wouldn’t have happened without the willingness of people all over the world to be a part of this with me. I will be forever grateful.”

To celebrate his career’s end, Bebo will be releasing his final radio single. “Sing of Your Glory” will be going for adds on April 19. He will also be touring throughout the summer and fall, anchored by a co-headlining tour “in the round” with his longtime friends and musical counterparts Andrew Peterson and Sara Groves.

Cultivating a substantial national following as a self-supported independent artist in the mid-90’s, Bebo became the poster child for Christian music’s acoustic singer-songwriter revival with his 1999 major label debut, which landed Norman on the cover of CCM—a rare honor for a new artist. The follow-up, Big Blue Sky, was voted No. 1 Christian album of 2001 by the editors at Amazon. Myself When I Am Real (2002) earned seven Dove Award nods and charted the defining hit, “Great Light of the World.” Projects Try (2004) and Between the Dreaming and the Coming True (2006) continued the steady climb. In 2007, Norman partnered with Seattle’s BEC Recordings to release his first Christmas project that garnered another Dove nomination. In 2008, he released the critically acclaimed self-titled project. In 2010, Bebo received a Dove Award for “Inspirational Recorded Song” for his song “The Only Hope” from this self-titled project. His next project, Ocean, released in 2010 and explored the theme of finding one’s real identity. Bebo resides in Franklin, Tennessee with his wife and two boys Smith and Miller.

I’m super excited to announce that my book “Fighter” is finally done.
I’ve been working on it for over 1.5 years at home and on tour.

I don’t know about you, but I love books. I could point to different books in my library and tell you how they changed my life. With music I only have a few minutes in a song to share my heart, and sometimes even less after a show.
So with “Fighter” I thought I could really give you more of me.
